Sugar Sands RV Resort, a highly rated Alabama property, recently completed an extensive wetlands beautification project. This major landscaping endeavor has enhanced the aesthetics of the resort, according to Mike Saia, general manager.
The project involved substantial planting around the resort’s pond, including palm trees and myrtlewood trees.
“It is beautiful, the amount of planting we’ve done in certain areas of the park. We have beautiful palm trees that were planted. The landscapers did a great job. The park looks beautiful,” Saia stated.

The work took several months, beginning in late July and finishing up in early October. Saia indicated that things went relatively smoothly thanks to the great team involved.
The results have been transformative for Sugar Sands’s overall look, an improvement Saia hopes to contribute to the next Good Sam rating. The resort recently received a perfect 10/10 rating from Good Sam for the past two years based on criteria like cleanliness, facilities, and customer service.
“As you pull into Sugar Sands, the pond is right on your right, and it’s really beautiful. You get a little excited. You get a little happy to be here because it really is a great area,” he remarked.

General Manager Micheal Saia credits his hardworking staff for the Good Sam accolade. “Extremely dedicated. They’re really invested in this park, which is wonderful. It makes it really easy to manage this,” he told Modern Campground.
The wetlands project is just one of several recent enhancements to further improve the highly-rated Sugar Sands under Saia’s leadership as general manager. With large, private sites and meticulous landscaping, Sugar Sands prioritizes both privacy and natural beauty. “What I love about this park is the sites are really big, and we have landscaping between each site, so it creates a lot of privacy,” said Saia.

Recent renovations like the wetlands project have enhanced the ponds and greenery, while amenities like the clubhouse, pool, and new food vending machine provide convenience. But it’s the top-notch service that keeps guests returning year after year.
“This staff will bend over backward to do whatever you need, and I mean anything. You are definitely family when you come here,” said Saia.
Helping to empower Sugar Sands’ staff is management company IVEE Group, which provides excellent support and resources. “They give you the tools to succeed. They don’t micromanage, and they want you to think out of the box and try to make your park great,” noted Saia.
This management prowess is part of a larger network of excellence. Sugar Sands RV Resort is a key property in the Turnstone-Blue Vista portfolio, a joint venture that boasts an impressive collection of campgrounds and RV resorts.
Each with its unique charm and amenities, the portfolio includes American RV Resort, Bonanza Camping Resort, Gulf Beach RV Resort, Milton/Gulf Pines KOA Holiday, Panama City Beach RV Resort, Port St. Joe RV Resort, Basswood Resort, Navarre Beach Camping Resort, and Pikes Peak RV Park.

Building on this foundation of quality, Sugar Sands has ambitious plans for the future.
With plans to add a dog park in 2024, Sugar Sands continues improving its perfect-10 facilities. But Saia stresses that it’s the people that make the difference. “You walk here at any time, any point during the day, and it’s clean and everything is where it’s supposed to be.”
